School Governance

Part of wanting to be anywhere — including school — is having a say in how the place is run on a day to day basis. That's why students at Pacific Crest are given an important role in school governance, and thus a stake in their school experience. Caring about one's community and learning how to shape it by working productively with others toward common goals is crucial to good citizenship at every level. Students at Pacific Crest experience this from the very beginning.

Going beyond the traditional Student Council model whereby a small group of students and administration interact as separate, hierarchical entities, every student at Pacific Crest has direct access to and impact on all aspects of school life through School Meeting. Each week the school meets in a student-run, democratic forum to celebrate successes, discuss problems, help set policies, decide on upcoming school and community activities, even vote on equipment purchases. In this way, the school has evolved over the years, and continues to grow in response to the changing needs and desires of its constituents. Visitors interested in gaining a better understanding of life at Pacific Crest are invited to attend School Meeting if possible.
